Cache Valley’s only certified Irish dance troupe presents “Celtic Tale” at the Caine Lyric Theatre in Logan
Logan, UT, February 17, 2012 – A new Irish Dance troupe will present two nights of traditional Irish step dancing at the Caine Lyric Theatre in downtown Logan next month. An Tús Nua (on-THOO-is NOO-uh) Irish Dance Academy will present “Celtic Tale”, featuring a troupe of 16 performers, including Open Champion dancers competing on the highest international level. An Tús Nua director Terena Lund said, “‘Celtic Tale’ follows the story of an elf's adventures in an enchanted forest of fairies, nymphs and leprechauns, all told with Cache Valley's best Irish dancers. Attendees can expect a fun-filled night of music, excitement and amazing dancing you won’t want to miss! Come and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us!” Performances will be held March 10 and March 16 at 7:30pm in the Caine Lyric Theatre. Doors open at 7:00pm for a pre-show performance by An Tús Nua’s younger dancers.
An Tús Nua Irish Dance Academy opened in 2007, and has steadily produced a small but dynamic group of young dancers leaving their mark on Irish dance in Utah and across the country, among them qualifiers for the All Ireland and National competitions. Teacher Te
rena Lund has earned the prestigious TCRG certification (Teacher with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha), Ireland’s stamp of approval for teachers who have demonstrated exceptional knowledge and ability to pass on the country’s beloved step dancing tradition.
“The Irish were brilliant about protecting their heritage and traditions,” said Lund. “They formed this “Coimisiún” (Commission) more than a hundred years ago to protect the songs and dances that meant so much to their history, and prevent diluting what they held so precious and dear. This is why I became certified. I wanted the truest, purest form of the art that I had seen in Riverdance & Lord of the Dance. It is such a beautiful, athletic art! Every time I see my girls dance I can't help but beam all over. That is why we do this and we want to share it with the community! An Tús Nua is Irish Gaelic for ‘new beginning’, and our logo is a sunrise. We felt the name was appropriate since we’re the first of our kind here in Cache Valley and we are truly just beginning.”
‘Celtic Tale’ will showcase the hardshoe step dancing that made Riverdance and Lord of the Dance so popular, as well as soft shoe dances and traditional Irish music. Fans of Irish dance can enjoy an affordable performance designed to rivet every age group and keep you glued to your seat. Tickets are just $5 for students, $6 before the event, and $7 at the door.
